NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY,   DeKalb, Illinois (1969-1996)  Retired as of 1 July 1996    (Professor Emeritus)

Professor of  Art and Senior Member of the Graduate Faculty with teaching experience in all aspects of printmaking media, seminars, drawing and life drawing at both graduate and undergraduate levels and beginning undergraduate illustration.

 

Responsible for the operations of the Graduate Programs in Art via a three-year term elected by the fifty-four member Graduate Faculty in Art.  Initially elected by the Graduate Faculty in Art for a three-year term as Coordinator of the Graduate Programs in Art from June 1991 to August 1994.  Served as Acting Director of the Graduate Programs in Art during the Fall semester of 1990.  Position also included chairmanship of the Graduate Faculty in Art and ad hoc membership to the Graduate Art Faculty Steering Committee.    Responsibilities included the administration of the M.F.A., M.A.  (Studio),  M.A.  (Art

History) and M.S. graduate degree programs currently involving fifty-four graduate faculty members and approximately two hundred and thirty graduate students with some secretarial support and a full-time graduate teaching assistant (20 hours per week).  The following duties were carefully maintained:  graduate admissions and denials; general and specific advisement; mediation; academic standards; the selection, appointment, assignment and supervision of graduate teaching and staff assistantships; graduate fellowship nomination; assignment of graduate tuition waivers;  job placement; scheduling solo graduate exhibitions; general control of Gallery 200 internal and external exhibitions as well as the Graduate Gallery; budget; curriculum development; promotional information;  materials and general supervision of all official forms and records; chairing the graduate art faculty; liaison with the Deans of the Graduate School; administration of the graduate comprehensive examinations; and establishing the working calendar.

Elected Faculty Chair of the Painting/Drawing/Printmaking/Illustration Area within the School of Art from 1978 to 1987.  The responsibilities included representing the eighteen faculty members of the area and the various graduate teaching and staff assistants, budget supervision, curriculum development, teaching assignments, inventory control, and control of the operational status of all assigned physical  facilities.

Served as Director of the Graduate Programs in Art from 1974 to 1977.

 

Directed approximately sixty-five individual MFA and MA graduate committees as individual chairperson and served as a member of seventy additional graduate committees in the disciplines of printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, design,  metals, fibers, art therapy, and art education.

 

A sabbatical leave was granted for Fall 1992 for the purpose of artistry at the Ymagos, Atelier de Gravuras de Arte in São Paulo, Brazil from 12 September to 31 August and at the atelier, Grafica Uno in Milan, Italy from 15 November to 12 December.

 

A sabbatical leave was granted for Fall 1984 for the purpose of artistic production in Milan, Italy and personal studio work. An earlier sabbatical leave was granted for Fall 1977 for the purpose of research and travel in Italy, France and Germany.

 

Treasurer-Elect of the 38th Conference of the Mid-America College Art Association (MACAA) from 1 November 1973 to 3 November 1974.  The conference session was hosted by Northern Illinois University from 30 October to 3 November 1974.

Outreach (Extension) teaching experience (during 1972 to 1994) in graduate seminars and graduate and advanced drawing courses in the following Illinois locations:  Palatine, Villa Park, Glen Ellyn, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, Arlington  Heights and Grayslake.   A class in drawing was presented at Statesville Prison in Joliet, Spring 1971.
