SETIAWAN SABANA

 

Setiawan Sabana, born 1951 in Bandung, West Java, began studying printmaking in 1972 and became fascinated by paper as a medium of expression in its own right. He graduated from the Institut Technologi Bandung (ITB) in 1977, and two years later spent a year as artist in residence at the Victorian College of the Art in Australia. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1981 and also did studies at Northern Illinois, USA, from where graduated in 1982.

 

Now Setiawan Sabana works as lecturer in printmaking, papermaking, and Art History at the Art Department, Faculty of Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). In 1989 he  researched contemporary Japanese printmaking in Japan. He is currently doing research on contemporary art in Southeast Asia.  Since 1978 he has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia, Southeast Asian countries, Japan, Korea, Australia, Jordan, Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Turkey.
